The Kriegers Flak Combined Grid Solution, a of offshore wind farms into the power grids of two different countries will be the first of its kind. This has the advantage that up to the capacity of the connection the produced power can be transmitted to the country with the highest demand and price, improving the economy of the wind farms. Secondly, the connection between Denmark and Germany can act as an interconnector, so power can be transmitted fro. [pdf]

Although nearly all households in the Cook Islands are connected to grid electricity, only 5.5% of households have additional solar photovoltaic systems installed, and 1% use small diesel generators. Several actions have taken place throughout the islands to increase the uptake of renewable energy..
The defined Atiu subproject broadly consists of a 1.5 hectare site with 400 kW of solar photovoltaics (PV) modules, connected to a new renewable energy station with 2.9 MWh of batteries, plus inverters and other equipment..
In its approach to delivering a 100% renewable energy target across 12 islands by 2020, the Cook Islands presents a rare insight into how planning requirements of high penetration renewable island systems vary with scale..
Solar costs: A bid submitted in 2016 for 1,364 MW of solar on four different Cook islands came in at $US 2,870 per kilowatt installed. In 2015 Mpower was the successful bidder on 5MW of solar PV on the nearby (by Pacific Ocean standards) island of Samoa at a price of $US 2,121/kW. [pdf]
