The 6kW grid-tie system on the left was our original install, the 5kW hybrid on the right is new. Like much of the world anything labelled as "solar" means the price gets multiplied, panels are cheap here but the mounting hardware is scary expensive, so we DIY'd that with local steel.
Over the weekend I just had a hybrid solar PV system installed at my house due to the crazy increase of electricity tariffs lately. This is a hybrid system which means the PV also charges a battery which in case of a power outage from the grid will still be able to power up the house hold.
The 67km range of our PHEV is enough for our daily needs and as our solar system is off-grid we are charging the PHEV purely from solar. On a busy days we drive the car in the morning, charge it over lunch and drive it again in the afternoon.
Firstly, it should be noted that the electric authorities (MEA or PEA) will not approve a DIY grid tied installation. According to their policies, all solar system installations which are connected to the grid must be undertaken by one of their approved installers and it must have an electronic meter fitted.
