• Microgrid controller costs reported in the database per megawatt range from $6,200/MW to $470,000/MW, with a mean of $155,000/MW. • The soft cost category exhibits a high degree of variability, ranging from 1% to 75%..
The cost will vary based on the microgrid controller’s sophistication and project complexity. Most customers see a positive payback within two to three years of purchasing an advanced controller from Siemens, Jacquemin says..
For up to 30 elements, controllers generally cost in the range of $50,000 to $90,000. Costs go up from there and can reach an order of magnitude of $500,000. For many common scenarios, it may be possible to control the microgrid with only the generator controller, so that’s an important question to resolve early..
The cost of the basic elements of control — microgrid controller, real time automation controllers, remote terminal units, utility relays, communication are, in some ways, a surprisingly smaller piece of the cost puzzle than the cost of the physical infrastructure to make the desired function operate and the engineering required to sort it . Despite global overcapacity, several factors may contribute to a slight increase in solar panel prices in Brazil, with shipping costs and quotas for fiscal exemptions on imported PV modules. .
In 2020, modules remained the most expensive component of utility-scale solar photovoltaics in Brazil, at around 217 U.S. dollars per kilowatt. Meanwhile, the cost of inverters stood at 43.9 . .
In 2023, the price of solar modules in Brazil fell by an average of 40%, mainly due to the expansion of the Brazilian solar industry. The average monthly electricity bill for a house in Brazil is R$500, while the cost of installing solar energy on the roof is around R$15,000, according to the price simulation table of the concessionaire Portal . .
The average 40% drop in the price of solar PV panels throughout 2023 in Brazil further increased the confidence of Brazilian consumers and the attractiveness of installing rooftop PV systems, even with the entry into force of new charging rules for the use of solar panels for using the electrical grid in distributed generation.
