It highlights the potential for foreign companies to be involved in Indonesia’s solar power growth and signals a favourable regulatory and economic climate for investors. The Cost of Solar Panels in Indonesia. Across the world, the cost of solar panels is declining, and Indonesia is no different..
Indonesia’s renewable energy investment has stagnated over the past seven years. The latest data shows that Indonesia could only attract around US$1.5 billion (bn) in 2023, translating into a mere 574 megawatts (MW) of additional renewable energy capacity; 145MW of which was added in 2023 from the Cirata floating solar project..
In 2021, Indonesia has identified solar energy as a key resource for the nation, with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) estimating a vast potential of 3,294 GW. Other data from the Institute of Essential Services Reform (IESR) suggests an even larger potential, totaling 7,715 GW. [pdf]
