During 2021, interconnectors provided 28TWh of electricity to the UK, which equates to 10% of total demand, whilst in 2009 this figure was 7TWh. Interconnectors allow the trade of electricity between countries with excess renewable generation and those with high demand. Interconnectors play a key part in balancing variable , for example the allows the UK to export excess power to duri. [pdf]

The Channel Islands Electricity Grid (CIEG) is the joint company set up in 1998 between Guernsey Electricity and Jersey Electricity to operate and manage the submarine cables between mainland Europe and the Channel Islands. The grid physically comprises a network of high voltage (90 kV, 3-phase, 50 Hz). .
The CIEG is continuing to develop the undersea cable network with additional subsea cables between the islands and France being devised to give both Guernsey and Jersey greater security and better affordability, as. .

Substation battery banks (SBB) in electrical substations participate in black start recovery processes and provide essential back-up power supply for protection, control, telecommunications, and lighting..
As long as the battery is kept charged, it can provide power continuously. Because batteries can hold electrical energy, they are a suitable option for a reinforcement power source. A substation contains a number of control circuits that are kept in the On state to operate switchgears, circuit breakers, isolators, and transfers..
•The substation batteries for the DC system must be in operation 24/7 – 365 – NOT just for backup power, but also to provide the current needed for day-to-day switching operations •Charger provides current for the load & a float current to charge the battery.
Mobile power systems equipped with load banks offer the ability to test substation battery performance and capacity. These tests may be performed off-line while maintaining power to the site. [pdf]
