In 2022, Greece amended the Energy Framework Law No. 4001/2011 by providing the legal framework for electricity storage particularly regarding licensing, remuneration and market participation. Thus, the law now recognises the following types of electricity storage:.
Currently there are four (4) storage plants operating in Greece, two open-loop pumped-hydro storage (PHS) stations in the mainland (700 ΜW in total) and two small hybrid RES-storage stations in non-interconnected islands (just 3 MW)..

It should be noted that the first tender for such projects in Greece is planned for the end of the first quarter of 2023, for a capacity of up to 1 gigawatt. This should whet investors’ appetite, especially given the National Energy and Climate Plan target of 8 gigawatts of storage capacity within the next ten years, with battery . [pdf]

•In a perfectly balanced energy system, the electricity demand and supply have to be perfectly aligned. Energy storage can stabilise the fluctuations in demand and supply by allowing the storage of excess electricity. •With the energy system relying more and more on RES, the energy storage has a key role.

the cost-performance of energy storage technology, leading to a significant increase of RES share in electricity generation. This report outlines the developing energy and climate policy framework of the European Union (EU) and how this is a driver for promoting energy storage in combination with Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and.
Classification of storage technologies against their maturity. Orange belt shows the range of capacity of storage needed in Cyprus grid and is added by the authors.
Cyprus has set out a policy framework for the integration of energy storage systems after reaching a funding agreement with the European Commission (EC). The Mediterranean island’s Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry (MECI) last week announced its ‘General policy framework for energy storage systems’..
renewable energy projects to minimize power curtailments, which are currently exacerbated by the insufficient interconnectors and centralized energy storage facilities in Cyprus. Additionally, it seeks to advance the deployment of new renewable energy generation projects with storage, which are essential for progressing towards a net-zero . [pdf]

These classifications lead to the division of energy storage into five main types: i) mechanical energy storage, ii) chemical energy storage, iii) electrochemical energy storage, iv) electrostatic and electromagnetic energy storage, and v) thermal energy storage, as illustrated in (Figure 2)..
The objective of the present report is to assess Armenia’s legal and regulatory framework for energy storage and provide recommendations for reforms that would be needed to successfully implement energy storage projects in Armenia. The report also provides recommendations on amendments to the draft Law On Electricity (May 16, 2023).
The present study aims to explain energy storage systems with comprehensive classification, certain definition, different aspects such as referring to application fields, unique features, and partly compar-.
This chapter presents an introduction to energy storage systems and various categories of them, an argument on why we urgently need energy storage systems, and an explanation of what technologies (and why) the market as well as research and development projects are putting more stress on. [pdf]
