In the near future, a solar and wind power plant with a capacity of 10 megawatts will be commissioned, symbolizing the beginning of alternative energy implementation in the country. Moreover, a combined power plant is being constructed on the Caspian Sea coast, which will increase exports to Europe..
I am convinced that today is the best time to invest in solar energy. The growing attractiveness of renewable energy is due to both the environmental well-being and environmental protection, as well as the economic aspect and competitiveness..
For example, to receive solar energy and actively apply it in industry using photovoltaic converters and in thermal energy - using solar collectors. This, in particular, should contribute to the improvement of energy supply for the rural population and territories remote from the central energy supply system..
Based on the methodology developed by the specialists of the Research and Production Center, pilot projects have also been implemented for a combined gas turbine and solar power station with an installed capacity of 50 MW, as well as a solar-hydrogen system to increase the energy efficiency of decentralized consumers. The nation is ready to realize its enormous solar potential because of its plentiful sunlight, government commitment, and rising investment in solar projects. Burundi can increase energy availability, promote economic growth, and lessen its carbon footprint by switching to cleaner, more sustainable energy sources, all while helping to battle . .
“Burundi is positioned to lead the region in solar energy development thanks to 2,000 hours of yearly sunshine, the intensity of the solar radiation, and untapped solar potential,” said. .
• Solar: Average daily solar insolation is 4–5 kWh/m2/day, indicating strong solar potential for Burundi (“Energy Profile Burundi” n.d.). There is a growing number of households, businesses, schools, and health clinics using distributed, off-grid solar. These systems can serve as an alternative.
Burundi has officially inaugurated the country’s first utility-scale solar field, as part of push to leverage renewable energy for improved access to electricity for homes and businesses. The grid-connected 7.5MW solar power plant, located in Mubuga, became operational in 2021. [pdf]
