To start with, the solar development here in Thailand is not as good as in other places. I live in the mountains in Thailand (and going soon to live there permanently). We have a hybrid solar system with 8 120Ah V12 Lead batteries and 7 panels of 300 Watt..

The 6kW grid-tie system on the left was our original install, the 5kW hybrid on the right is new. Like much of the world anything labelled as "solar" means the price gets multiplied, panels are cheap here but the mounting hardware is scary expensive, so we DIY'd that with local steel..
Over the weekend I just had a hybrid solar PV system installed at my house due to the crazy increase of electricity tariffs lately. This is a hybrid system which means the PV also charges a battery which in case of a power outage from the grid will still be able to power up the house hold..
The 67km range of our PHEV is enough for our daily needs and as our solar system is off-grid we are charging the PHEV purely from solar. On a busy days we drive the car in the morning, charge it over lunch and drive it again in the afternoon..
Firstly, it should be noted that the electric authorities (MEA or PEA) will not approve a DIY grid tied installation. According to their policies, all solar system installations which are connected to the grid must be undertaken by one of their approved installers and it must have an electronic meter fitted. [pdf]

1. Low cost: One of the main advantages of using sand as a battery material is its low cost. Sand is abundant and inexpensive, making it an attractive option for large-scale energy storage. 2. High energy density: Another advantage of sand batteries is their high energy density. By using advanced materials and techniques,. .
Low power density: Another disadvantage of sand batteries is their low power density, compared to other battery technologies. Complex manufacturing process: The process of. .
Despite the current limitations, the potential of sand batteries as a low-cost and safe option for large-scale energy storage makes it an exciting alternative to all currently known. .
Construction details of a sand battery can be found in the patent filed by inventor Vladan Petrovićfrom Serbia. The inventor also calls it a "heat storage device for long-term heat storage of solar energy and other types of energy". For those who prefer straightforward. [pdf]
